PARKING AND SHUTTLE SERVICE

Free shuttle service will be available from the RC Wiley parking lot to Damonte Ranch High School from 7:00am until 2:00pm on Sunday, October 18th. No need to mess with traffic and parking! Just pull into RC Wiley on Steamboat Parkway, get on the shuttle bus, and we’ll drop you off in front of Damonte Ranch High School.

THERE WILL BE NO PARKING AT DAMONTE RANCH HIGH SCHOOL so we highly encourage you to park at RC Wiley and use this free shuttle service provided by Amador Stage Lines. We want to ensure that the Run for Education is respectful of our great neighbors in the surrounding Damonte Ranch neighborhoods. The short shuttle ride will be only about 5 minutes long and will run continuous throughout the event. Best of all, we will even have a special raffle for those participants who take the shuttles!

Training Tips

A healthy life style is about more than one dedicated day to physical training.  We encourage you to begin training well in advance of the October 18, 2009 Run for Education.  If you are training with your students for an event at the Run for Education, please reference the following training guides.

We know that besides having a lot of fun at the Run for Education, students attending the event are building healthy lifestyles that will last a life time!  Congratulations on your commitment to these children and their future. And, remember to keep the kid's engaged by making training fun and enjoyable. - Kid's Training Guide -

In addition, adults training for the Run for Education should begin training early and continue training up to the event in order to ensure an enjoyable experience.

Exercise is a great way to feel and look your best everyday! We can't wait to see you at your best on Sunday, October 18th, 2009 at the Run for Education.

As another resource, if you are interested in running a 5K, 10K or ½ marathon, but have no experience with running then Reno Running and Fitness is the place for you. The business (co-founded by a WCSD employee) was developed to help novice runners, learn about nutrition, clothing and training plans, participate in group runs with other local novice runners and most importantly discover the fun of running! If you are interested in learning more about this group visit www.renorunningandfitness.com.

Reno Running and Fitness has also developed four training programs to help teachers train their students for running events. With any training program, it is important to never overextend and to always exercise within the limits of one’s personal health considerations.

Course Maps

The start / finish line for all runs will be in the front of the school.

1/2 mile run

One lap around the main school building in a counterclockwise direction

1 mile run

2 laps around the main school building in a counterclockwise direction

5K run and walk

Runners and walkers start the counterclockwise lap around the building. After a quarter of the lap, they exit the school property onto the access road between the baseball/softball complex and the athletic field. Participants will turn left on Western Skies Drive and head south. They continue and do an out and back on Western Skies Drive. Then, they will turn left onto a pedestrian pathway that connects to Rio Wrangler Drive. At Rio Wrangler Drive, participants will turn right and run in the bike lane on the street back toward the school. They will turn right on Western Skies Drive, then left onto the access road back onto the school property. They will turn right and complete the rest of the lap around the building and finish in front of the school.

10K run

Runners and walkers start the counterclockwise lap around the building. After a quarter of the lap they exit the school property on the access road between the baseball and softball fields and the athletic field. They turn left on Western Skies Drive and head south. They continue on Western Skies Drive, going straight where the 5K participants turn around. They will turn right onto a pedestrian pathway that doubles back parallel to Western Skies Drive. That pathway will connect them to Rio Wrangler Drive. At Rio Wrangler Drive, they will turn right and run in the bikelane on the street back toward the school. They will turn right on Western Skies Drive. Instead of turning into the school like the 5K participants, they will continue south again on Western Skies Drive. They will turn right when they reach the first pedestrian pathway and that will take them to Rio Wrangler Drive. At Rio Wrangler Drive, they will turn right and again run in the bike lane on the street back toward the school. They will turn right on Western Skies Drive. This secnd time through they then will turn left onto the access road back onto the school property. They will turn right and complete the rest of the lap around the building and finish in front of the school.

5k and 10k Courses are certified!

Volunteer course marshals will be on the course to help guide the runners and walkers along the courses.
